Many Asus routers can do this by using Merlin's Asuswrt firmware which includes OpenVPN client policy routing. I'm hoping somebody that buys it will do some testing and make a review, but it seems like a good product. It's great to be skeptical of a product, but it really bothers me when people fake an education to seem smart and bash a product that is a really good idea and could be of benefit to a lot of people. How effective DPI is will depend on them, but it seems like they care. For instance, that bug that leaked your IP in a game lobby could have been avoided with DPI. You can do things with DPI that you can't do with the simple policy based routing you get in software and other routers. Second, I'm not sure how their deep packet inspection is implemented, but if it's done well it can be a really powerful tool. VPNs definitely make it a pain in the ass though and this router offers the best of both worlds. If I really want to invest the time to ddos you nothing is going to stop me. If anyone claims you should implement a system with 100% protection they're full of shit. I'm going to hijack the top comment to say a few things because this seems like a really good product, but some of the critical comments below are way off the mark.įirst of all, there's no such thing as 100% protection. EDIT: Apologies, I should have written a better title like "Prevent DDoS". I'll check the posts in the morning to see if there are any other FAQs I can add. We have x-posted this in r/leagueoflegends & r/DotA2 as they both asked for this feature too.ĮDIT: I'm going to head off to bed now. The routers centralised position means it can prevent leakage for all devices. It can be done in software, however its possible that your IP gets leaked through another device for example your phone, tablet or console. Also we actually perform game classification using deep packet inspection making misclassification's extremely unlikely. However for most people its probably not worth the effort especially given the risks of setting it up incorrectly. To an extent yes, what you need is a VPN client and policy based routing. Solving the server problem is far more difficult and we don't claim to do that.Ĭan you do this with other routers or on your PC? It prevents their IP from being leaked without making the game lag more. No it does not, this is a solution to be used by gamers at home. Thank you for encouraging us to make this – hopefully this is something you guys still want!ĭoes this stop DDoS on game servers, web servers or game services? I'm available to answer any questions you have for the next couple of hours. You won't lose any stream/game bandwidth as you're not on the VPN server Your game won't get any added lag as it's not on the VPN server Your game & stream will never be interrupted by DDoS To quickly explain, Hybrid will VPN everything in your home except your game and stream traffic because you trust the game and twitch servers. Here’s a short video describing how it works. We thought it would be cool to come full circle and announce the feature, called ‘VPN-Hybrid’, here first. Your response was amazing and it was clear that you guys wanted it made. Hi, I am the CTO of Netduma, a new router software start-up.Ībout 7 months ago we asked for your feedback on a complete Anti-DDoS solution.
